Sometimes we just need a little bit of magic in our lives — enter Stargirl Caraway (Grace VanderWaal), the free-spirited, ukelele-playing teenager who, in Julia Hart’s “Stargirl” (2020), did just that for the unassuming, mild-mannered boy she befriended when she began attending his school. Now Stargirl is ready to bring some magic to LA, as we see in this new trailer for the sequel, “Hollywood Stargirl.”
As she and her mother (Judy Greer, “The First Lady”) move to California, Stargirl befriends her neighbor; forms a bond with aspiring filmmakers Evan (Elijah Richardson, “When They See Us”) and his brother Terrell (Tyrel Jackson Williams, “Brockmire”), who cast her in their film; and even encounters and gets advice from a musician she’s long admired (Uma Thurman).
“All I wanted was to dream crazy things, and find people crazy enough to dream them with me,” Stargirl shares. “And I got more than that.”
Hart returns as director and co-wrote the script with her frequent collaborator and husband, Jordan Horowitz. They have also previously worked together on “I’m Your Woman,” “Fast Color,” and “Miss Stevens.” Their “Stargirl” adaptations are based on the bestselling YA novel of the same name.
“Hollywood Stargirl” lands on Disney+ June 3.
