Teresa Palmer won’t let skeptics stand in the way of her dreams in a new trailer for “Ride Like a Girl.” The inspirational drama is based on a true story of a history-making female jockey and marks Oscar-nominated actress Rachel Griffiths’ feature directorial debut.
Committed to being “the best,” Michelle Payne (Palmer, “A Discovery of Witches”) vows to make it all the way to the Melbourne Cup. Despite facing sexist backlash — including from her own father, who tells the so-called “little girl” to “settle down” like her sisters — Michelle persists. Her goal is both difficult and dangerous. After sustaining a serious injury, the jockey is told that another injury “could be fatal.” Michelle’s first and only question to the doctor is, “When can I ride again?”
Griffiths received an Oscar nod in 1999 for “Hilary and Jackie.” “Brothers and Sisters” and “Six Feet Under” are among her other acting credits. She previously helmed two shorts and episodes of “Nowhere Boys,” an Australian series.
You can catch “Ride Like a Girl” in theaters and on VOD March 13.
