Set in 1857 India, “The Warrior Queen of Jhansi” tells the true story of a 24-year-old Indian general who led a battle against the British Empire. A new trailer has dropped for the pic about the freedom fighter.
“I must do what is best for my people. As your Queen must do for hers,” the Queen (Devika Bhise) says in the spot. Her enemies insist that she be “broken and destroyed” because they realize that “she will never surrender.”
“This real-life Wonder Woman’s insurrection shifted the balance of power in the region and set in motion the demise of the notorious British East India Company and the beginning of the British Raj under Queen Victoria,” the film’s synopsis details.
The Queen accomplishes this by training women warriors. “We women have several forms: mother, daughter, sister, friend,” she tells her army. “We must unite in one incarnation: freedom fighter.”
“The Warrior Queen of Jhansi” opens November 15.
