Trailer Watch: Tilda Swinton Can’t Stop Hearing a Mysterious Sound in Cannes Drama “Memoria”

"Memoria"

The jungles of Colombia leave a lasting mark on Tilda Swinton in “Memoria,” a Cannes drama about Jessica (Swinton), a Scottish woman who begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome after hearing a loud sound at daybreak. “It’s like a rumble from the core of the Earth — and then it shrinks,” Jessica explains in a new trailer for the film.

The spot sees Jessica trying to make sense of the haunting sound and its origin. Her condition may trace back to the jungle’s history. She’s shown a 6,000-year-old skull with a hole drilled into it “to release bad spirits.”

Swinton won an Oscar in 2008 for her supporting role in “Michael Clayton.” “Avengers: Endgame” and “The Souvenir” are among her recent credits. She’s premiering three films at Cannes this year: “Memoria,” a sequel to “The Souvenir” from Joanna Hogg, and star-studded Wes Anderson pic “The French Dispatch.”

Neon is releasing “Memoria” stateside. No word on when to expect it in theaters.
