Trailer Watch: “Working Woman” Tackles Sexual Harassment

"Working Woman"

A tale of sexual harassment in the workplace, “Working Woman” has been referred to as “timely” in much of the press surrounding the film. Has there ever been a time period when women haven’t had to deal with inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct at their jobs? Thankfully, dialogue about this epidemic is becoming more frequent, and the consequences for perpetrators more severe. But we still have a long way to go — a fact that a new trailer for the Michal Aviad drama makes painfully clear.

Orna (Liron Ben Shlush) is returning to the workplace. The mother of three young children and wife to a man struggling to start his own restaurant finds a job with a former army superior, Benny (Menashe Noy), to support her family. Now a successful real estate developer, Benny hires Orna to work as his administrative manager. He seems like a great boss — at first. Encouraging and supportive, he gives her much-deserved credit and praises her for being his “right-hand.” “Want some advice?” he asks one day. “You look better with your hair down.” And things just get more cringe-inducing from there.

“I wanted to better understand what the boundaries are in sexual harassment at work and how harassment can influence a working woman’s relationships with their husband, family, and ability to work,” Aviad told us. “I’d like viewers to learn about the complexities of sexual harassment at work by identifying with the heroine and her life.” She added, “The biggest challenge in making this film was to not have the story revolve around the extreme facets of the issue but to tell a realistic, nuanced story.”

“Dimona Twist,” “Invisible,” and “Jenny and Jenny” are among Aviad’s previous credits.
