Here is an update to yesterday’s post about Theresa Rebeck’s play opening on Broadway. It seems that there will be several female written plays opening on the great white way this fall. Great news. At least there will be women eligible to be nominated for a Tony next year. I just wish that we didn’t have to get all excited about seeing women’s work produced. It should be the norm.
Here they are:
The Mountaintop — written by Katori Hall — starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett. Show will open on October 13. This will be Hall’s Broadway debut.
Detroit — written by Lisa D’Amour — play will open in the fall and is a Steppenwolf Theatre Company production. This will be D’Amour’s Broadway debut.
Relatively Speaking — co-written by Elaine May and Ethan Coen and Woody Allen will open on October 20.
Stick Fly– written by Lydia R. Diamond will open on December 8. It is produced by singer Alice Keys.
