Vicky Zhao to Direct Animated Feature Adaptation of Iconic TV Series ‘My Fair Princess’

Vicky Zhao, one of China’s most popular actresses, will return behind the camera to helm a feature-film version of “My Fair Princess,” the TV show that launched her to stardom.

The animated adaptation will tell the Cinderella-like tale of an adopted orphan who befriends the illegitimate daughter of the king and accidentally becomes royalty herself.

The late ’90s series made its trio of actresses — Zhao, Bingbing Fan and Ruby Lin — three of China’s most beloved and enduring performers. Zhao’s previously directed 2013’s hit dramatic feature “So Young.”

The new project will be produced by Alibaba Pictures, the film-production wing of Alibaba, China’s version of Amazon.

Zhao and her husband own nearly 10% of Alibaba Pictures.
