As we had previously reported, director Amy Berg, whose documentary West of Memphis screened at TIFF, is directing her first narrative feature Every Secret Thing starring Diane Lane with a script adapted by Nicole Holofcener. Over the weekend it was announced that Berg’s new film will be financed by Merced Media Partners, Palmstar Media Capital and Hyde Park Entertainment. Elizabeth Banks will co-star alongside Diane Lane with the rest of the cast to be announced. Anthony Bregman and Frances McDormand (yes, the actress) will produce.
In the press release, Bregman stated:
Great, female-driven crime movies are few and far between — and one this original and surprising is like a gift. It’s gratifying that so many talented and enthusiastic collaborators agree — from the creative to the financial sides and everywhere in between.
The film will begin shooting in February 2013.
In other female director news, the rights to Kelly Reichardt’s new film Night Moves are being sold by The Match Factory.
As Deadline reports, Night Moves will star Dakota Fanning, Jesse Eisenberg and Peter Sarsgaard as radical environmentalists who orchestrate the explosion of a hydroelectric dam which will be the largest direct action event that they have ever participated in. Reichardt, whose last film was Meek’s Cutoff, has co-written the film with Jon Raymond.
Night Moves will begin filming next month.
