Women & Hollywood Podcast #17: ‘Suffragette’ Director Sarah Gavron

Women and Hollywood spoke with director Sarah Gavron about her new film “Suffragette,” which we endorse with the utmost enthusiasm and appreciation. Written by Abi Morgan, the historical drama focuses on the steep sacrifices the working-class foot soldiers of the movement were forced to make, especially after many of them decide resort to violence after half a century of futile peaceful protest.

In our latest podcast episode, Gavron discusses the controversy over the lack of women of color in her film, shooting the first movie to be filmed in Parliament and how Meryl Streep plays a small but pivotal role in the film.
