Get ready to laugh and reflect: for this round of crowdfunding picks, we’re focusing on comedies about and made by women. First up is Sarah Delpizzo and Melissa Graver’s “The Pet Peeve Police.” This web series follows two friends who are done with society’s bad habits. They don’t want to let crappy behavior go with a shrug and a wave: they’re going to point it out and make people think twice about their actions.
“Yes, I’m Single,” is a feature that’s bound to resonate as we get closer to the holidays. Writer Lauren Jennings shares some of her personal worst dates in the flick, which revolves around a visit home for the holidays, where everyone but the protagonist seems to be settled down and in a relationship. “Bite Me,” a film directed by Meredith Edwards and written by Naomi McDougall Jones, brings the laughs in the form of a rom-com. An uptight IRS agent audits a woman who is part of a subculture who believes they are vampires.
Writer-director Theresa Gambacorta’s “The Mother Lode” combines comedy with tragedy. Margaret, a Pinterest-loving mom who’s just trying to raise her kid, struggles with grief after losing her father. It all takes a turn when her father returns to her as a ghost. And, finally, Taylor Coriell and Jasmine Romero’s web series “You’re the Pest” reunites two childhood friends who inherit a pest control business.

Sarah Delpizzo and Melissa Graver are graciously offering up their services to call out society’s douches for their bad habits in “The Pet Peeve Police.” Both women are using comedy, tan police uniforms (the ones with the shorts), and long hashtags to rid the world of insensitive nonsense.

This comedy isn’t here to just to make us laugh. It’s an effort to remind viewers to look within and maybe even inspire them to change their own bad habits.

“Yes, I’m Single” — Directed by Nicole Kovacs; Written by Lauren Jennings
“Yes, I’m Single” will hit close to home for anyone in their late 20s who happens to be single as the holidays approach. Much of this dramedy is based on writer Lauren Jennings’ own experiences, including a cringeworthy date with a guy eating noodles with his hands. Spoiler alert: they never saw each other again.
This team is dedicated to magnifying diverse female voices while making us laugh and reflect on our own status as single women in a society that constantly asks, “So, are you seeing someone?”

“Bite Me” — Directed by Meredith Edwards; Written by Naomi McDougall Jones
At first glance “Bite Me” feels like the same ol’ romantic comedy where opposites attract, fight against the forces that keep them apart, but somehow still end up in each other’s arms. It’s not until you take a closer look that you realize it’s much more than that. “Bite Me” is a love story about a woman who identifies as a vampire and the IRS agent who is auditing her.
“Bite Me” really proves that love has no bounds and that a team with an almost entirely female creative team (writer, director, DP, three of four producers, AD) can make untold stories come to life and flourish.

“The Mother Lode” (Web Series) — Written and Directed by Theresa Gambacorta
Motherhood is the central focus of writer and director Theresa Gambacorta’s comedy web series, “The Mother Lode.” It’s a personal story about being a mom that is simultaneously uncomfortable and silly. What’s surprising about this comedy is that it also explores the aftermath of the death of Margaret’s father. Did we mention that his ghost won’t stop following Margaret around?

“You’re the Pest” is a web series about women with agency. This comedy isn’t about bringing two women together to talk about boys. It’s about the pitfalls and joys of running a business you never really wanted with a person you haven’t spoken to for a while because life happens.
Even better? “You’re the Pest” creators Taylor Coriell and Jasmine Romero’s are obviously invested in creating progressive content for women, POC, and members of the LGBTQIA community.
