Liza Miller will continue living a double life for at least another year. Variety confirms that “Younger,” the Sutton Foster-led series about a 40-something woman posing as a 20-something for a publishing job, has been renewed for a sixth season. The fifth season premieres tonight on TV Land.
“’Younger’ exemplifies romantic comedy at its best and each season the show hits new creative and ratings heights,” stated Kevin Kay, president of TV Land, CMT, and Paramount Network. “We are honored to continue to work with the brilliant Darren Star and this amazing cast, led by the multi-talented Sutton Foster. The new season is outstanding and we are thrilled for what’s to come for these beloved characters.”
As the source notes, “Younger” has become one of the buzziest summer shows since its 2015 debut. It has inspired an extended universe of sorts, including a Facebook pre-show, “Getting Younger”; a recap podcast, “Younger Uncovered”; and a book from the show’s world, “Marriage Vacation,” that was published in real life.
Created by Star (“Sex and the City”), “Younger” is based on the 2005 novel by Pamela Redmond Satran. The series co-stars Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor, Nico Tortorella, and Peter Hermann.
“At Liza’s core, I think she’s a really, really good person and someone who cares very deeply about the people in her life,” Foster has said of her somewhat duplicitous character. “She doesn’t want to hurt anybody. This is just the way she’s able to — at this time in her life — figure out how to have the career she’s always dreamed of.”
