Looking for a way to celebrate International Women’s Day in London? Look no further. Join Women and Hollywood, Birds Eye View, and White Water Women for a special event Wednesday, March 8. “Bend It Like Beckham” director Gurinder Chadha will be in conversation with Melissa Silverstein, Women and Hollywood’s founder and publisher.
The two will discuss Chadha’s work, career trajectory, and what being a role model means to her. There will also be a sneak peek at some footage from Gurinder’s latest film, “Viceroy’s House.”
Mia Bays of Bird’s Eye View will offer opening remarks, and closing remarks will be provided by Averil Leimon of White Water Women.
“Viceroy’s House” made its world premiere at the Berlinale this month and hits UK theaters March 10. No word on a U.S. release yet. The historical drama depicts the final months of British rule in India and stars Gillian Anderson (“The Fall”), Hugh Bonneville (“Downton Abbey”), Huma Qureshi (“Gangs of Wasseypur”), Manish Dayal (“The Hundred Foot Journey”), and Michael Gambon (“Harry Potter” franchise).
It was recently announced that Chadha is developing “Song for a Spy,” a WWII-set film centered on a female Indian spy.
The event will be held in the historic Sands Film Studio, costumier on classics such as “Wolf Hall” and “Suffragette.” For more information about the evening and to purchase tickets, head over to the event page.
