A new trailer for “Hanna’s” second season introduces a change in scenery. The next chapter in the teen assassin’s journey sees Hanna (Esmé Creed-Miles, “Dark River”) infiltrating The Meadows, a secret conditioning school where assassins are trained to go undercover as ordinary teenage girls. The trainees’ development is about to reach the lethal “second phase,” where they’ll find “restrictions lifted and glimpse the possibility of a new identity in the outside world. But this apparent freedom will come at a heavy price,” Season 2’s official synopsis hints.
Promised a “new life,” Hanna is adamant that she already has a name and a life of her own. The Meadows is less interested in helping trainees evolve and offering them freedom than weaponizing their bodies. “They are perfectly refined military tools,” says John Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney, “New Girl”), the man who runs the program. “When socialization is complete all we have to do is flip a switch.”
“Hanna” is based on the 2011 film of the same name starring Saoirse Ronan. Season 1 consisted of eight episodes, four of which were directed by women. Sarah Adina Smith (“Buster’s Mal Heart”) and Amy Neil (“Call the Midwife”) each directed two eps.
Season 2 of “Hanna” drops on Amazon Prime Video July 3. Mireille Enos (“The Killing”) co-stars.
