Comedy Central Renews ‘Another Period’ for Season 2

One of this summer’s best new shows, Comedy Central’s “Another Period,” has been renewed for a second season.

Created by and starring Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, the mockumentary satirizes the lives of the idle rich in Downton Abbey times.

Our TV critic Sara Stewart praised the series for its ability to find dark feminist humor in its historical setting: “One of the brilliant things about it is that every episode touches on some truly dark issue women had to deal with in the early 1900s. In the ‘Divorce’ episode, Lillian (Leggero) tries to get her husband falsely arrested for beating her when she learns it’s one of the only ways a woman can legally split from her husband.”

Nearly all the episodes are written or co-written by Leggero and Lindhome, allowing for a remarkable specificity of vision and tone for the show.

“’Another Period’ is a beautiful reflection of a great American truth: the more things change, the more they stay the same,” commented Comedy Central’s programming president Kent Alterman. Added Leggero and Lindhome with a wink, “We are thrilled that Comedy Central has such good taste.”

“Another Period” wraps up its first season on August 25.
