Melissa McCarthy Developing Three New Films and Directing Tammy

nullThe very funny Melissa McCarthy announced three movies that she and her writing partner/husband, Ben Falcone will be developing with their production company, On the Day. They have also signed on to direct the film Tammy.

The first, Michelle Darnell, written by McCarthy and Falcone is based on an original character that McCarthy came up with. Details about the plot are scarce, but McCarthy is set to star. They will write the script with Steve Mallory, a friend from their time at the improv group, The Groundlings.

Based on the book by Bruce Eric Kaplan, Cousin Irv From Mars, will tell the story about a boy and his strange cousin from Mars. Both films have been picked up by Universal.

And the pair will take a pass at adapting a screenplay for Just Do It: How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives for 101 Days (No Excuses!), based on the memoir by Douglas Brown, who attempted a 101 day sex marathon with his wife to put the spark back in their marriage. McCarthy will play a role in the film.

In an adorable statement to The Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy and Falcone are excited about the new projects they will be working on.

We've been writing together for longer than we've been married. To be able to produce our own work and other people's work that we are so passionate about is really a dream come true.

McCarthy and Falcone are also co-directing, Tammy, which they also wrote. The film was originally set to be directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller, but she had to drop out due to scheduling issues. Tammy follows a woman (who will be played by McCarthy) who after catching her husband cheating and losing her job goes on a road trip with her drunk grandmother. It will be the directorial debut for both.

McCarthy’s latest film, Identity Thief, hits theaters today.
