Nora Ephron, Cyndi Lauper Among Tony Award Nominees

nullEarlier this week, the 2013 Tony awards nominations were announced. Nora Ephron received a posthumous nomination for Best Play for Lucky Guy. Iconic pop star, Cyndi Lauper, was nominated for Best Original Score for Kinky Boots (which led the pack with 13 nominations). And Diane Paulus was nominated for Best Director of a Musical for Pippin, which is her third Best Director Tony nomination. Other women directors who have received as many nominations as Paulus include Susan Stroman and Kathleen Marshall.

A low point in the nominations is that no women were included in any of the honorary awards this year and the nominators also overlooked Bette Midler for her terrific performance as Sue Mengers in I’ll Eat You Last.

The Tony Awards will air on June 9.
