Shonda Rhimes to Write Film Script About Female War Correspondents

null

Shonda Rhimes is returning to movies. She began her career writing Crossroads and Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement before changing our television screens with hit shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal

Rhimes will be writing the script for War Correspondents, about a number of female war correspondents. Rhimes’ longtime Shondaland partner, Betsy Beers will executive produce alongside Mark Gordon (who executive produces Grey’s Anatomy). The project is for Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

The trio had previously developed the project for television before Grey’s Anatomy. However, in an interview with The New York Times earlier this summer, Rhimes had hinted that the project could be back on.

Hannah Minghella, president of production at Columbia Pictures released a statement on the project.

Shonda’s unparalleled story sense — especially when it comes to stories about women forging their way in traditionally male professions — made this
project irresistible. Shonda first explored the idea of a story about female war correspondents for television, but over the years, it’s become a much
bigger story and we’re thrilled that she sees a way to do it on the big screen. She has a great take on the material and we have a consummate producer on
board with Gordon and believe this will make a terrific feature film.

With the upcoming seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, Rhimes is going to have a busy year ahead of her.
