Superagent Sue Mengers Biopic in the Works

“Can I Go Now: The Life of Sue Mengers, Hollywood’s First Superagent” Cover: Viking

The biography “Can I Go Now: The Life of Sue Mengers, Hollywood’s First Superagent” is getting a feature film adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The book follows the story of how Mengers “helped to broker the deals for some of Hollywood’s most memorable onscreen roles. Mengers, known in equal parts for her bombastic personality and caftans, worked at CMA, ICM and WMA, with an expansive, rotating client list that included Cher, Brian De Palma, Michael Caine, Mike Nichols, Cybill Shepherd and Barbra Streisand.”

Menger’s was portrayed by Bette Midler in a one-woman Broadway show called “I’ll Eat You Last.”

Unfortunately, however, the directing gig went to a guy: Morgan Spurlock, who directed “Super Size Me,” will be helming the film. Though he’s directed multiple documentaries, this will mark his first feature. We can’t help but feel like the job of directing a biopic about a powerful Hollywood woman should have gone to a woman. No word yet on casting.
