Three Women-Centric Films Opening on August 16th

nullIf you survive the summer of male centric super hero and action films, mark your calendars for August 16th because three women-centric films will be opening. While August has been in the past seen as Meryl Streep’s time of the year, this year August Osage County will open in the fall.

Here are some options for your August viewing.

Sundance favorite, Jerusha Hess’s Austenland, stars Keri Russell as a woman who goes to a Jane Austen theme park in order to meet a potential mate. The film is also produced by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, who was a huge fan of the novel by Shannon Hale.

Haute Cuisine, a French comedy, starring Catherine Frot, as a chef who begins working for the president of France. Variety’s reviewer described Frot as a “French Meryl Streep.”

Maggie Carey’s The To Do List, starring Aubrey Plaza as a straitlaced, uptight student who wants to become more sexually experienced before she heads to college in the Fall. So, she takes her studious approach to sex that she previously did with her schoolwork.

No matter your film preferences, make sure to head to the theaters to see these films. Both Austenland and Haute Cuisine are getting a platform release while The To Do List will be opening wide.  And we also note that two of the three — Austenland and The To Do List are women directed.

Update: The To Do List has been moved up to July 26th.
