Trailer Watch: Mandy Moore and Claire Holt Become Shark Food in “47 Meters Down”

“47 Meters Down”

“It’s like you’re going to the zoo — except you are in the cage.” A new trailer has been released for “47 Meters Down,” a thriller that sees Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”) and Claire Holt (“The Originals”) voluntarily stepping into a cage, and rather than having gaping toddlers looking at them, they are eye to eye with huge and terrifying Great White sharks.

Moore and Holt play Lisa and Kate, twenty-something sisters on a beach vacation. Lisa is reluctant to cage dive, but Kate’s enthusiasm and others’ assurances that it’s safe convince her to take the plunge. The sisters are having a great time underwater — until their cage breaks away from the boat, leaving them stranded and surrounded by unfriendly-looking sharks. “I’m so scared,” Kate cries. She and Lisa are being instructed to stay in the cage by the tour operators, but they have very little oxygen left. Time is running out and the pair need to swim to the surface — a distance of 47 meters.

Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios acquired the North American rights to “47 Meters Down” for seven figures from Dimension last summer. The purchase came on the heels of great box office numbers for “The Shallows,” Blake Lively’s big-screen battle against a relentless Great White shark. The summer hit grossed over $119 million worldwide on a budget of $17 million.

Directed by Johannes Roberts (“The Other Side of the Door”), “47 Meters Down” opens in theaters June 16. Check out the scream-filled trailer below.
