Tribeca Film has acquired the rights for Marion Vernoux’s Bright Days Ahead which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last week. As far as we can tell, this is the first female directed film to get a deal out of the festival.
The film, adapted by Vernoux from A Young Girl with Gray Hair by Fanny Chesnel, stars Fanny Ardant as Caroline, a woman who has recently retired. Her newfound freedom does not set her free. Her daughter’s give her a gift to neighborhood seniors club and to her surprise she meets a younger computer science teacher and they begin an affair.
Geoffrey Gilmore, Tribeca Film’s Chief Creative Officer commented on the acquisition.
Bright Days Ahead is the kind of engaging adult drama we rarely get to see. Fanny Ardent, one of the icons of French Cinema, plays a woman of a certain age
rediscovering herself, her sexuality and her zest for life. In a role that seems made for her, Ardent’s performance soars with sensuousness in captivating
romance that is both real and gratifying.
There is no word yet on a release date for the film.
