Watch: New ‘Mockingjay — Part 2’ Teaser Released

New details from the land of Panem have been coming in waves this week, as the stars and creators of “The Hunger Games” franchise revealed teasers and thoughts in a Comic Con panel.

A new trailer for “Mockingjay — Part 2” was released and based on what we’re reading, it sounds epic and chilling and war centric. According to Cinemablend’s recap, the footage “revealed Katniss leading her march into the Capitol, followed by hundreds if not thousands of supporters as she makes her way down the same bleacher-lined passage she went down with Peeta during the first Hunger Games, and became known as The Girl on Fire. It’s at this point that we begin to see what kind of traps the Capitol has laid out in front of the resistance.” More war-torn imagery follows, apparently culminating in Peeta telling Katniss that Snow’s death will make everyone’s lost lives mean something, and Katniss calling for all of Panem to stand with her.

Lionsgate is dropping teasers like candy this week, with a new poster reveal of Katniss sitting on President Snow’s “Iron” throne, and a motion poster trailer to launch the poster. As the franchise comes to a close, it seems Lionsgate has hit its stride with a subversive marketing campaign that ties in propaganda from both sides of Panem’s upcoming war. They’ve released posters that depict The Capitol’s publicity campaign to win the public back to their side, and short videos filmed from the perspective of District 13 that ask citizens to stand with the rebellion.

At Comic Con, producer Nina Jacobson touched on how the franchise illustrates the power and persuasion of media, saying that “[o]ver the course of this revolution, who is in charge of the media and what they do with it becomes enormously important to the outcome. And it is only through the pursuit of truth and defiance of the system that our characters ultimately do create change. But it doesn’t come easily.”

Katniss herself, Jennifer Lawrence, had some insights into her character and how she’s grown over the course of four films, observing that “[w]aking up in District 13 changed things.” “I believe that [Katniss] kind of grows into her position and takes control of her own destiny,” she added.
