2012 Gucci Award for Women in Cinema Nominees Annnounced

Famed fashion house, Gucci, has announced the 2012 nominees for the Gucci Award for Women in Cinema. The award, which is for women’s artistic achievement in film, is awarded collaboratively with the Venice International Film Festival. It’s a really broad award covering many different areas. Who knows how they will be able to pick the winner.

The jury consists of Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, actress Zoë Saldana, director and screenwriter Paolo Sorrentino, dean of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Mary Schmidt Campbell and film journalist and curator Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan.

The nominees are:

Colleen Atwood — Costume Designer for Snow White and the Hunstmen

Nadine Labaki — Director/Writer of Where Do We Go Now?

Brit Marling — Actress and co-writer of Another Earth

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy — Director of Saving Face

Thelma Schoonmaker — Editor of Hugo

The winner will be announced on August 31st.
