A handful of familiar names — among them Angela Bassett, Amy Schumer, Jill Soloway and Sofia Coppola — received DGA Awards nominations for their directing work this year. Also nominated were helmers better known for their indie filmmaking, like Dee Rees, Laurie Collyer and Liz Garbus, as well as veteran TV directors like Gail Mancuso, Lesli Linka Glatter and Beth McCarthy-Miller.
But more significant is the fact that seven of the nine DGA categories included female nominees, and in one category, TV movies and miniseries, the women directors comprised the majority. (The two male-only awards categories were Reality TV and Commercial.)
Here are the women directors nominated by the 2016 DGA Awards. The list is adapted from a DGA press release.
