Awards season is heating up. With the Globes just one day behind us the Directors Guild of America (DGA) has announced nominees for the 71st edition of the DGA awards in the categories for TV and documentaries.

Women fared best in the Drama Series and Documentary categories. Of five directors in the running for Dramatic series, two are women: Lesli Linka Glatter for political thriller “Homeland” and Daina Reid for Elisabeth Moss-led dystopian “The Handmaid’s Tale.” The former has received DGA Awards for her work on “Homeland” and “Mad Men.” Two of five films nominated in the Documentary category are directed or co-directed by women: Betsy West and Julie Cohen’s Ruth Bader Ginsburg tribute “RBG” and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s “Free Solo,” a look inside Alex Honnold’s attempt to free solo climb El Capitan.

Amy Sherman-Palladino is the lone woman up for directing a Comedy Series. She’s nominated for her work on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” a look inside the life of an emerging stand-up comedian which she also created. She received a nod for “Maisel” last year as well.

Women are absent from a number of categories, Movies For Television and Limited Series and Children’s Programs among them. Check out the entire list of nominees in all of the categories over at The Hollywood Reporter.

The DGA will announce feature film and first-time feature film nominations tomorrow, January 8.
