Yesterday, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences released the 15 films on the short list in the Documentary feature category for this year’s Oscars. Only three films on the shortlist are directed by women. That's just 20%.
While there are many strong and worthy contenders in this category — we are big fans of The Invisible War — there are many other really excellent women-directed documentaries released this year that most certainly could have made this list including Lauren Greenfield’s Queen of Versailles, Sarah Burns’ Central Park Five, Amy Berg’s West of Memphis and Lisa Immordino Vreeland's Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel.
