Contrary to the folks at Cannes who seem to not be able to find any women directed movies for their competition, Alberto Barbara has gotten 4 films with women directors (or co-directors) in the competition.
As previously reported, Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist will be opening the festival, but will screen out of competition. 23 films make up the rest of the Out of Competition films (this includes special events.) Our best guesstimate is that there are 6 women directed films with women co-directing 2 of the 6.
And in Orrizonti (Horizons), which celebrates new trends in world cinema, there are 4 women directed films out of 18.
