90% of Summer 2014 Studio Movies Directed by White Guys

A comprehensive study of this summer’s major releases by The Wrap reveals that a dispiriting 90% of those films will be directed by white men.

Jupiter Ascending helmer Lana Wachowski, along with brother Andy, is the sole female director of the summer’s big movies.

Thomas Carter (When the Game Stands Tall), Tim Story (Think Like a Man Too), and co-helmer Robert Rodriguez (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) are the only directors of color with major releases.

In fact, “the studios will release more comic book movies directed by white men than the total number of movies directed by all women and by non-Caucasian males combined,” observes study author Lucas Shaw.

Just one more reason to check out the Women and Hollywood Summer 2014 Preview, as far as we’re concerned.
