Lisa Immordino Vreeland’s ode to the bond between two literary giants has secured distribution. Kino Lorber scooped up North American rights to “Truman & Tennessee: An Intimate Conversation,” a documentary exploring the friendship between “In Cold Blood” author Truman Capote and “A Streetcar Named Desire” playwright Tennessee Williams, a press release announced.
Selected for the 2020 Telluride Film Festival, “Truman & Tennessee: An Intimate Conversation” explores “the personal and professional journeys of iconic American artists and writers Truman Capote and Tennesee Williams — coalescing with creative combustion in this innovative dual-portrait documentary,” the film’s synopsis details. Immordino Vreeland “distills the loves, fears, and artistic achievements of these masters through archival materials, film clips, and vibrant voiceover work from actors Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto, who give voice to Capote and Williams respectively. Packed with pearls of wisdoms and eloquent observations, the film celebrates the sometimes tumultuous friendship of the titular writers through the ages, while honoring the way their queer identity informed their world-renowned artistic achievements and relationships with their family, confidants, and — most significantly — each other.”
“With ‘An Intimate Conversation,’ we spend 86 delightfully entertaining minutes with two of the most remarkably witty raconteurs of their time. By approaching her subjects as a duo and how their meaningful friendship and rivalry inspired each other, Immordino Vreeland’s film defines the meaning of ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts,'” said Kino Lorber’s Wendy Lidell.
Immordino Vreeland’s other credits include “Love, Cecil,” “Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict,” and “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel.”
“I just try to work with my gut instinct and after each film there is always a takeaway — it can be creative or something having to do with production. Whatever I learn in a past film, whether good or bad, I always carry over to the next film,” Immordino Vreeland told us in 2017.
“Truman & Tennessee: An Intimate Conversation” will be screening at the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival, which is taking place virtually March 24-28. The doc will be released in June, followed by a VOD release on Kino Now and home video.
