“Do you guys believe in ghosts?” asks Rebecca Hall in a new trailer for “The Night House.” The psychological horror pic sees the “Godzilla vs. Kong” actress playing Beth, a recently widowed woman who discovers shocking secrets about her late husband and their house.
The spot suggests that Beth’s husband died by suicide. He takes a boat out on the lake with a gun and leaves Beth an incomprehensible note that leaves her with more questions than answers. “You were right,” he writes. “There is nothing. Nothing is after you. You’re safe now.” “Safe from what?” a concerned loved one asks.
Bloody footprints on Beth’s dock are just one sign that something is not right about the property her husband helped build, and suggest that she may not be so safe after all.
“Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “The Town,” and “Professor Marston & the Wonder Women” are among Hall’s other credits. Her feature directorial debut, “Passing,” made its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Netflix acquired the period drama starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga for $15 million.
“The Night House” is being released July 16.
