Trailer Watch: Netflix Docuseries “The Keepers” Investigates a Nun’s Murder

“The Keepers”

Love “Making a Murderer” and other docuseries that tackle mysterious crimes from a fresh perspective? You’re going to want to watch a newly released trailer for “The Keepers.” Netflix’s new docuseries centers on a group of amateur sleuths determined to discover exactly what happened to Sister Catherine Cesnik, a Baltimore nun who was murdered nearly 50 years ago. “Sister Cathy exemplified this spirit of compassion and kindness,” says one of “The Keepers’” characters. And based on the trailer, it seems as though this beacon of light may have been targeted by the very institution she served.

“There’s an on the record, public story of what happened to Sister Cathy — and then there’s the world underneath,” we’re told. The so-called “world underneath” seems to involve abuse perpetrated by priests — crimes Sister Cathy planned to make public — and a police cover-up. “This goes bigger and deeper than we can imagine,” one of the investigators emphasizes.

We’ve recently reported on two other upcoming projects centered on nuns, Maggie Betts’ “Novitiate,” a drama set in the early 1960s about a young woman training to be a nun, and “The Little Hours,” a raunchy comedy that sees Alison Brie (“Community”) and Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”) wearing habits.

“The Keepers” premieres on Netflix May 19.
