Nia Long Joins Lili Reinhart in Wanuri Kahiu’s “Plus/Minus”

Long in "Fatal Affair": Netflix

Wanuri Kahiu’s latest has added another cast member. Nia Long is set to appear in Lili Reinhart-starrer “Plus/Minus.” Variety broke the news.

Penned by April Prosser, the romantic comedy tells the story of Natalie (Reinhart), whose “life diverges into two parallel realities on the eve of her college graduation. One version sees her become pregnant and navigate motherhood as a young adult in her Texas hometown, and the other journey takes place as she moves to Los Angeles to pursue her career,” the source details.

“Plus/Minus” marks Kahiu’s follow-up to “Rafiki,” her 2018 feature debit. The romance about two young Kenyan women was banned in Kenya due to its LGBTQ subject matter. Kahiu refused to alter the film, saying “I truly believe that an adult Kenyan audience is mature and discerning enough to be able to watch this film and have their own conversation.” The ban was temporarily lifted so it would be eligible for Oscars consideration.

Kahiu is signed on to helm an adaptation of “The Thing About Jellyfish,” a children’s book about a seventh grader mourning the loss of her best friend. “Stranger Things'” Millie Bobby Brown stars.

Best known for her role as Betty in “Riverdale,” Reinhart’s other credits include “Hustlers,” “Chemical Hearts,” and “Miss Stevens.” A couple of months back she signed a first look film and TV deal with Amazon Studios.

A three-time NAACP Image Award winner, Long took home honors for her roles in “Third Watch” and “The Best Man.” “#BlackAF” and “The Banker” are among her more recent credits.
