Camila Cabello vows to make a life for herself in a new trailer for “Cinderella,” Kay Cannon’s modern take on the beloved fairy tale. In this version of the story, Cinderella (Cabello) is an aspiring fashion designer eager to make her mark on the world and escape her oppressive home.
“There’s only my love for your father, rest his soul, that stands between you and a life on the street,” her stepmother warns. Cinderella envisions a different kind of life for herself despite being laughed at for “[fancying] herself a businessman.” After catching the eye of the prince at a ball, Cinderella is offered the chance to be a princess, but this heroine is rewriting her happily ever after. “I don’t want a life stuck waving from a royal box anymore than a life confined to a basement,” she insists. “I have dreams that I have to chase.”
Cabello is making her acting debut with “Cinderella.” The two-time Latin Grammy award winner’s biggest hits include “Havana” and “Never Be the Same.”
Cannon made her feature debut with 2018’s “Blockers.” The three-time Emmy nominee launched her career as a writer on “30 Rock.” “New Girl,” “Cristela,” and “Girlboss” are among her other TV credits. She penned the screenplay for 2012 box office smash “Pitch Perfect,” and went on to write the second and third installments of the aca-franchise.
Penned by Cannon, “Cinderella” launches exclusively on Prime Video September 3.
