New kids on the block, Ada Twist and friends, are set to make their way to children’s screens this fall. A new trailer has just dropped for “Ava Twist, Scientist,” Netflix’s upcoming animated preschool series based on the best-selling picture book series. The show follows the adventures of pint-sized scientist Ava, and pals Rosie Revere the engineer and Iggy Peck the architect.
“Together, there’s no problem they can’t solve” the narrator tells us, as we see the young kids get up to innocuous yet inquisitive scientific shenanigans. At one point they burst into song: “let our imaginations become great, new creations.”
It’s clear that the series, which is part of the Obamas’ huge Netflix slate under their Higher Ground Productions banner, is intended to provide positive, encouraging, STEM-focused programming for curious young minds — and particularly young girls. Said showrunner Kerri Grant of the series upon its announcement: “To be a part of bringing a show to kids that features a young, Black girl being unapologetically the smartest kid in the room… fills my heart to capacity.”
And as the official synopsis teases, “solving the mystery is only the beginning, because science isn’t just about learning how and why and what… it’s about putting that knowledge into action to make the world a better place.”
The series premieres on Netflix September 28. The third episode is now exclusively available as a preview on Netflix Jr. YouTube.
