Told to “stand very still and smile a lot,” Kristen Stewart begins to crumble under mounting pressure at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate in a new trailer for “Spencer,” a portrait of Princess Diana. The highly anticipated drama is set during Christmas festivities during a period when gossip about Princess Diana (Stewart) and Prince Charles’ (Jack Farthing) relationship reached a fever pitch.
We hear little from Diana herself. Instead, we witness her receiving nonstop advice. “They can’t change. You have to change,” she’s told. The Princess of Wales is also warned that there has to be two of her — “the real one and the one they take pictures of.”
Diana is aware that there’s little hope for changing the status quo, at least not if she remains in the Royal Family. “Here, in this house, there is no future: the past and the present are the same thing,” she says.
Stewart, whose recent credits include “Happiest Season” and “Charlie’s Angels,” has been receiving Oscar buzz since “Spencer” premiered at Venice Film Festival to rave reviews. The film hits theaters November 5.
