Trailer Watch: Four Women Take on the Pacific Ocean in “Losing Sight of Shore”

“There’s an incredible insight to be gained to know that you can fight and overcome anything that is thrown your way,” says one of the characters in a newly released trailer for “Losing Sight of Shore.” The documentary centers on four brave women who embark on an epic rowing adventure.

Directed by Sarah Moshman, “Losing Sight of Shore” follows the foursome, known as the Coxless Crew, as they set out to row the Pacific Ocean from America to Australia unsupported — a goal which requires them to cross 8,000 miles and spend nine months at sea. According to the film’s official synopsis, the rowers must overcome “extreme mental and physical challenges… in order to go down in history. ‘Losing Sight of Shore’ is a story of perseverance, friendship, and the power of the human spirit.”

“I believe that everyone has their own Pacific to cross,” one of the rowers observes.

Moshman’s filmography is full of stories about inspiring women. Her credits include “The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things,” a feature-length doc that follows five female filmmakers as they drive across the U.S. and encourage other women to pursue their dreams, and “Growing Up Strong: Girls on the Run,” a doc short about an after school running program that focuses on building self-esteem in girls.
