Best known for her breakthrough role in “Run Lola Run,” the “Bourne” franchise and, more recently, “Claws,” Franka Potente is making a name for herself behind the scenes. The German actress’ feature directorial debut, “Home,” just landed U.S. distribution. A press release announced that Gravitas Ventures will release the redemption drama on December 3.

Penned by Potente, the drama tells the story of a Marvin (Jake McLaughlin, “Quantico”), a 40-year-old man who is “coming home after more than 20 years in prison,” and soon discovers that “even after two decades, his small American hometown has not forgotten the atrocity he committed. Despite the confrontation and hostility from the locals, Marvin will do what it takes to win back his place in society.” Oscar winner Kathy Bates, last seen in “Richard Jewell,” plays Marvin’s mother.

“The film will have a theatrical release in 10 cities plus all major cable and digital platforms,” per the release.

Another German actress-turned-director, Maria Schrader, is also celebrating good news stateside. Her latest feature, sci-fi romance “I’m Your Man,” has been chosen to represent Germany in the Best International Film category at the 2022 Academy Awards. The Emmy-winning “Unorthodox” helmer’s on-screen credits include “Aimee & Jaguar” and “Deutschland.”
