Olivia Nuzzi, the Washington correspondent for New York magazine, will attempt to lampoon the already-bonkers world of American politics for television. Deadline reports the journalist and “Killing Eve” executive producer Gina Mingacci are collaborating on the AMC series “A Message From the State,” which is described as “a pitch-black satirical drama set in Washington, D.C.”
No official word on its premise yet, but Deadline believes the show “follows a young reporter in D.C. who defects from the mainstream media.” Nuzzi and Mingacci are writing and exec producing.
Nuzzi, who covered the Trump presidency and is very familiar with the bizarre bleakness of modern politics, said of the show: “To stop myself from walking directly into the Potomac while covering the White House and presidential campaign, I started a writing exercise for my own amusement: could this be any funnier and more f*cked up than it already is? The result is the least factual, most honest story I’ve ever told.”
Nuzzi joined New York in 2017, where she has most recently written about aspiring senator Dr. Oz and former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham. Nuzzi previously worked at The Daily Beast and has written for the Washington Post, Politico, and other outlets.
Mingacci served as VP Development and Current Programming at BBC America prior to producing “Killing Eve.” The fourth and final season of the spy thriller premieres February 27 on BBC America.
