Trailer Watch: Britt Robertson Starts a Fashion Empire in Netflix’s “Girlboss”

“Girlboss”

“Go ahead. Underestimate me. I’ve got it all figured out,” a young woman with a great eye for fashion tells a store owner in a new trailer for “Girlboss.” Inspired by the best-selling book “#Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso, the Netflix series centers on Sophia (played by Britt Robertson), whose confidence and business savvy are immediately apparent. She convinces the store owner to lower the price of a vintage jacket from $12 to nine dollars plus some of her “free business advice.” “This is an original 1970s East West calfskin motorcycle jacket in perfect condition. Know what your shit’s worth. Because you just got played,” she grins.

“Girlboss” chronicles Sophia’s improbable ascent to becoming a bona fide business mogul. In real life, Amoruso’s multi-million dollar fashion enterprise began when she attempted to scrape together a living selling vintage items through eBay. She spent much of her young adulthood hitchhiking and dumpster-diving before founding Nasty Gal, a retailer specializing in clothes for young women. In the trailer, Sophia compares her fashion business to flipping houses.

The series is created by and executive produced by Kay Cannon, who penned box office smash hits “Pitch Perfect,” “Pitch Perfect 2,” and the upcoming third installment of the aca-franchise. The former “30 Rock” writer serves as showrunner on the series. Amoruso, Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon, and Beth Kono are among the project’s other executive producers.

Robertson’s credits include “The Space Between Us,” “A Dog’s Purpose,” and “Tomorrowland.”

“Girlboss” hits Netflix April 21. Check out the trailer below.
