French film industry execs Naomi Denamur and Julie Billy have launched their own firm. The duo have started Paris-based production company June Films, with features from actress-filmmakers Clémence Poésy (“Tenet”), Ariane Labed (“Trigonometry”), and Hafsia Herzi (“You Deserve a Lover”) already lined up. Deadline broke the news.

Denamur has worked in international sales (MK2, Indie Sales, Le Pacte) as well as acquisitions (Ad Vitam, Elastica). Billy is an alumna of Haut et Court and counts “The Lobster” and “Gagarine” among her producing credits. The two met 15 years ago at Celluloid Dreams, and have been compiling June Films’ mostly-women-directed slate for the past 18 months. “The idea is to be director-driven and genre agnostic,” the source notes, “and the company will leverage the duo’s extensive experience in production and international distribution to elevate the prospects for their projects.”

June Films’ current titles include Poésy’s English-language directorial debut, an adaptation of the 2019 novel “Expectation,” which traces the hopes and setbacks of a group of East London women; Herzi’s adaptation of Fatima Daas’ “La Petite Dernière” (“The Last One”), the story of a Muslim lesbian coming of age in a Paris suburb; Labed’s first feature, “Sisters,” which is expected to shoot this year; Emma Benestan’s “Amazons,” a genre film about bull racing; and a French-language pic from “Gagarine” directors Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh.

“June brings together a family of filmmakers we’ve met over the years. We will foster the emergence of new talent, while offering a modern production model,” Denamur and Billy told Deadline. “The company aims to protect the vision of its filmmakers, while guiding them in the international market, and our line-up focuses on director-driven cinema which puts forward a diverse range of views of the world.”
