Trailer Watch: Lili Reinhart’s Life Diverges Into Different Paths in Wanuri Kahiu’s “Look Both Ways”

"Look Both Ways"

“Can a single moment change your life?” asks Lili Reinhart in a new trailer for Wanuri Kahiu’s “Look Both Ways.” The “Riverdale” and “Hustlers” actress leads the Netflix pic with a premise reminiscent of 1998 Gwyneth Paltrow-starrer “Sliding Doors”: one fateful moment causes a woman’s life to diverge into two different paths. On the night of her college graduation, one version of Natalie gets pregnant after hooking up with a friend. She stays in her hometown and navigates motherhood as a young adult. The other version of Natalie doesn’t get pregnant, and moves to LA to pursue her career.

Version 1.0 is overwhelmed by the demands of motherhood. “I don’t draw. I don’t see my friends,” she worries. By her own account, she “cannot imagine” what her “life would have looked like in LA.” Her relationship with her friend, the father of her child, develops into love.

Version 2.0 gets a job working for her idol and falls for a new man.

“Everyone has that moment in their life when they have to decide what’s most important to them,” Natalie says. “It’s not just one moment that defines your life — it’s all the moments.”

Penned by April Prosser, “Look Both Ways” launches on Netflix August 17. It marks Kahiu’s follow-up to “Rafiki,” which made its world premiere at the 2018 edition of Cannes Film Festival.
