Melissa McCarthy to Star in and Produce Action Comedy “Super-Intelligence”

McCarthy in “Ghostbusters”: Sony

Melissa McCarthy is heading another action comedy. The “Ghostbusters” star will topline and produce New Line’s “Super-Intelligence,” The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Slated to begin production in July, the project sees the Oscar nominee playing Carol Peters, a former corporate exec whose life changes overnight when she’s “selected for observation by the world’s first super-intelligence — an artificial intelligence that may or may not take over the world.”

The two-time Emmy winner is re-teaming with her husband and frequent collaborator Ben Falcone on “Super-Intelligence.” He’ll direct the pic and produce alongside her via their On the Day banner. McCarthy previously starred in Falcone’s “Tammy” and “The Boss,” and their next project, college-set comedy “Life of the Party,” hits theaters May 11.

McCarthy also has two dramas on the way, Andrea Berloff’s Irish mob story “The Kitchen” and Marielle Heller’s biopic of famed forger Lee Israel “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” The former is slated for a September 20, 2019 release and the latter is set to bow October 19, 2018.

In 2012 McCarthy scored an Oscar nod for her breakout role in “Bridesmaids.” She’s won Emmys for her lead role in CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly,” which ran from 2010–2016, and for hosting “Saturday Night Live.”

One of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, McCarthy’s biggest box office hits include “Spy,” “The Heat,” and “Identity Thief.”
