Leslie Hope to Make Feature Directorial Debut with Rom-Com “The Swearing Jar”

Hope in “Tyrant”

Leslie Hope is stepping behind the camera for “The Swearing Jar.” The “24” alumna will helm the indie romantic comedy, marking her feature directorial debut, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Written by fellow actress Kate Hewlett (“The Girlfriend Experience”) from her theatrical play, the story follows a musician and teacher throwing a birthday concert for her husband. The pair are “plunged into the history of their marriage, parenting, and loss through comedy, music, and memory.”

Perhaps best known for playing Teri Bauer on the first season of “24,” Hope’s other acting credits include “Crimson Peak,” “NCIS,” and “Suits.” She’s directed episodes of “Ghost Wars,” “Aftermath,” and “Van Helsing.”

“The Swearing Jar” is scheduled to shoot later this year in Toronto and casting is currently underway. Jane Loughman of Monkeys & Parrots and Kyle Bornais and Tony Wosk of Farpoint Films are producing.

“Leslie’s gorgeous creative vision and deep connection to the multi-layered material — not to mention her enthusiasm, and instant bond with the team — make her an invaluable addition to the project,” Loughman said in a statement.

Other actresses with feature directorial debuts on the way include Kirsten Dunst, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Karen Gillan.
