Hillary Seitz to Adapt Ruth Ware’s “The Woman in Cabin 10”

CBS Films

“The Woman in Cabin 10” is headed to the big screen. “Eagle Eye” and “Insomnia” screenwriter Hillary Seitz has signed on to pen an adaptation of the Ruth Ware mystery thriller, Variety reports. Released in 2016, the page-turner appeared on the New York Times Best Sellers list for 19 consecutive weeks. The movie rights were acquired by CBS Films, and the project will be produced by the Gotham Group. A director hasn’t been announced.

The story, which has received comparisons to Agatha Christie’s works, centers on Lo, “a journalist who is given the travel magazine assignment to spend a week on a boutique ultra-luxury cruise ship with only a handful of unimaginably wealthy travelers,” Variety summarizes. “The dreamlike experience could not be more perfect — until late one night when she witnesses an unspeakable act culminating with a woman being thrown overboard. On the following morning, all of the passengers remain accounted for and the ship sails on as if nothing has happened.”

The novel was published by Scout Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

“Ruth Ware has crafted a beautiful and sophisticated mind-bending thriller,” said Terry Press, president of CBS Films. “We look forward to working with Hillary, the Gotham Group, and the terrific team at Simon & Schuster to bring ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ to movie going audiences around the world.”

Ware’s first novel, “In a Dark, Dark Wood,” is also being made into a film. Reese Witherspoon is producing the project. The Oscar winner previously produced two other adaptations of best-selling mystery novels written by a women, Gillian Flynn’s “Gone Girl” and Liane Moriarty’s “Big Little Lies.” She stars in the latter. The limited series is currently airing on HBO.
