Zoe Lister-Jones’ “Band Aid” Gets a Release Date

“Band Aid”

Dysfunctional bands are usually notorious for their diva antics, exploitation of adoring fans, and drug addictions — not passive-aggressive discussions about personal hygiene and doing the dishes. Zoe Lister-Jones’ “Band Aid” will introduce viewers to a different kind of band: one formed by a wife (Lister-Jones, “Life in Pieces”) and husband (Adam Pally, “The Mindy Project”) whose rocky relationship leads their therapist to suggest that the pair collaborate on a musical project. “Band Aid” has received a release date, and songs of marital discord will be heard in theaters beginning June 2, Deadline reports.

In addition to helming the comedy, Lister-Jones penned the script. The film premiered in January at Sundance, where Lister-Jones discussed what drew her to the story. “As a writer, I wanted to explore the power dynamics in a long-term relationship, particularly the way couples fight,” she told Women and Hollywood. “At the same time, I was interested in writing a story with music at its core, so creating a world in which domestic squabbles are explored through song was a perfect intersection of the two.”

Lister-Jones also weighed in on the current state of affairs for women directors. “I think the next step is to create more opportunities for women to direct studio movies and franchises,” she suggested. “I do think there is a double standard in the risks studios are willing to take when it comes to hiring relatively inexperienced male directors from the independent film world versus their female counterparts.”

Lister-Jones received Women In Film’s Film Finishing Fund grant for “Band Aid.” Previously, she has written and appeared in the films “Breaking Upwards,” “Lola Versus,” and “Consumed.”

Check out a clip from “Band Aid” below. “Let’s make a list of our Top 10 Fights of All Time,” Anna (Lister-Jones) suggests to Ben (Pally). As you can imagine, it’s not long before the brainstorming session escalates into an argument.
