Rosemary Rodriguez to Direct “Grandma’s Shoes from Poland”

Rosemary Rodriguez just signed on to direct the pilot of CBS’ “Cagney and Lacey” reboot, and now Deadline reports that she’ll helm “Grandma’s Shoes from Poland,” a new feature.

Set in 1970s Long Island, New York, the pic centers on Eddie, who is trying to “hide his deeply dysfunctional family from a special girl he meets in college to disastrous results.” Rodriguez will shoot the film after “Cagney and Lacey.”

“Jessica Jones,” “The Walking Dead,” and “The Good Wife” are among Rodriguez’s recent TV credits. “A misconception about TV directing is we don’t leave our mark,” she’s said. “I’m not trying to change the show; I’m just trying to bring what I know my strengths are and what I’m confident I can bring.” She added, “Everyone brings their own assets. I want to be collaborative. Honoring everybody and saying thank-you means a lot to people who bust their ass. It helps people get on the same train and tell the same story.”

Rodriguez’s last feature was 2016’s “Silver Skies,” a dramedy about retirees whose lives are turned upside down when the apartment complex they live in is sold. She made her feature debut with 2001’s “Acts of Worship,” a drama about a woman addicted to heroin and cocaine.
