Birds’ Eye View Unveils New Project to Grow Audiences for Women-Directed Films

Birds’ Eye View (BEV) has introduced a new initiative to increase the audiences for female-helmed movies: the “Reclaim The Frame” Influencer Project. From April to September BEV will spotlight four films in five UK cities. The first of “Reclaim The Frame’s” six launch events will be held April 16 in London.

The six-month project will see BEV build up a group of grass-roots “influencers” in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Plymouth, and Birmingham; encourage 18–30-year-olds and BAME (black, Asian, and minority ethnic) audiences to participate; bring attention to gender inequality in film and beyond; and curate a lineup of films from the UK and around the world “that celebrates and challenges perceptions of the female gaze on screen.”

If you live in or around London, Manchester, Newcastle, Plymouth, or Birmingham and are interested in helping out, you can join the project as an influencer. This is your opportunity to spread the word about women-directed films and engage with their audiences.

BEV began in 2003 as an annual film festival but has since evolved into a year-round campaign for gender equity in film. Last year BEV partnered with Women and Hollywood and White Water Women to host a conversation between filmmaker Gurinder Chadha (“Bend It Like Beckham”) and Women and Hollywood Founder/Publisher Melissa Silverstein. The event took place on International Women’s Day.
