Julie Delpy will be honored at the upcoming European Film Awards, The Hollywood Reporter writes. She’ll receive the European Achievement in World Cinema award in Berlin on December 9. Best known to North American audiences for playing Celine in Richard Linklater’s “Before” trilogy, the French actress is also an accomplished writer and director. She co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplays for “Before Sunset” and “Before Midnight,” and has helmed seven features, including “Lolo,” “2 Days in Paris,” and “Skylab.”
“Beatrice,” “Europa, Europa,” “ER,” “Broken Flowers,” and “Wiener-Dog” are among the Golden Globe and Cesar nominee’s acting credits.
Delpy is currently in pre-production on “My Zoe,” a family drama she wrote that she’ll also direct and star in. The story follows a divorced geneticist who goes to extreme lengths for her daughter after tragedy strikes. Gemma Arterton (“Their Finest”), Richard Armitage (“The Hobbit” franchise), and Daniel Brühl (“Rush”) co-star.
When we asked Delpy her advice for women directors, she encouraged her fellow female filmmakers to “hang in there, and never take no for an answer. It took me 20 years between the time I wrote my first screenplay and the time I actually got money to direct a movie — exactly 20 years,” she revealed.
