Trailer Watch: Juliette Binoche Looks for Love in Claire Denis’ “Let the Sunshine In”

“Let the Sunshine In”: UniFrance

“You’re charming, but my wife is extraordinary,” Juliette Binoche is told in a new trailer for Claire Denis’ “Let The Sunshine In.” The Oscar winner plays Isabelle, a Parisian artist who is looking for a meaningful romance in all the wrong places. She realizes that she deserves more than the married man she’s having an affair with can offer, but she keeps getting drawn in. “I’d think, ‘He’s a bastard.’ Then I’d climax,” she confesses to a friend.

The pic sees Isabelle stumbling through encounters with “a highly sensitive thespian” and “a charming hairdresser” among others, according to the film’s official synopsis. But it sounds like she needs a shift in perspective more than a lover. “Tend to what matters most: yourself,” she’s advised in the spot. “Don’t fall into traps. I try to let the sunshine in. That’s all I ask of you.”

“Let the Sunshine In” premiered at Cannes in 2017. The romantic comedy hits theaters and VOD April 27.

“Bastards,” “Beau travail,” and “35 Shots of Rum” are among Denis’ previous credits. Up next for the French writer-director is “High Life,” a father-daughter story set in deep space.
