Teaser Watch: New Clips, Premiere Dates for “Orange Is the New Black” & “Catastrophe”

“Orange Is the New Black”: Netflix

Get excited, TV lovers. “Orange Is the New Black” and “Catastrophe” — two of Women and Hollywood’s favorite series — dropped teasers and premiere dates today.

The “OITNB” teaser reveals almost nothing and is basically a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it montage of Litchfield’s finest looking ready to do battle. The fifth season of Jenji Kohan’s prison dramedy will premiere June 9 on Netflix.

Last season was the series’ most devastating yet. After 11 episodes of racial tensions, conflicts with the sadistic, inexperienced new guards, and overcrowding, the prisoners demonstrated in a peaceful protest. It quickly turned chaotic and ended in Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death. The season finale saw the beginning of a riot at Litchfield in response to her death and Daya (Dascha Polanco) pointing a gun at a C.O.’s face.

Hopefully, the upcoming season, which reportedly will take place over just three days, will provide fans and characters alike some much-needed catharsis.

Catastrophe” also ended its previous season on a cliffhanger, albeit one that is decidedly less life-or-death. After Sharon and Rob’s (Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney) huge fight and subsequent reconciliation, Rob discovered a receipt for Plan B in Sharon’s purse. And she didn’t buy the emergency contraception after having sex with him.

A promotional clip, released on Deadline, features the real Sharon and Rob playing a couples’ game. The creators of “Catastrophe” reveal which of them takes longer to get ready, curses more, and has the weirdest habits. Plus, they announce when the show will return: Season 3 will premiere on Amazon Prime April 28.

As Deadline writes, the upcoming episodes will probably “deal with the loss of a key recurring cast member, Carrie Fisher, who died December 27.” Fisher portrayed Rob’s mother, who frequently butted heads with both her son and daughter-in-law.
